ABOUT THE DEACON’S PANTRY FOOD BANK AT ST JUDE WEXFORD
Hours of Operation: Wednesday between 10am – 12pm.
ABOUT THE DEACON’S PANTRY FOOD BANK
The Deacon’s Pantry Food Bank was started over twenty-five years ago in response to the identified need for an emergency supply of food with in the immediate community of our parish. It was started as an outreach program by a small group in the congregation. It has continued and grown since then as families in need from the community have grown as the result of economic challenges.
DONATIONS AND FOOD SUPPLY
We are blessed to receive donations from many local faith groups, local community groups, agencies, businesses, and social service organizations. They include The Church of St Jude Wexford (Anglican), Toronto East Chinese Baptist Church, The Church of St Andrew (Anglican), Emmanuel Lutheran, The Church of St Mary Magdalene (Anglican), Toronto Chinese Methodist Church, and Wexford Heights United Church. Since September 2011, we have been supported by Second Harvest.
Food is purchased from local grocers by a dedicated group of volunteer shoppers. We also purchase fresh fruits and vegetables to supplement our weekly delivery from Second Harvest. In the summer months we maintain a vegetable garden at the church rectory to add to the fresh produce. Local residents have also started to bring in vegetables from their gardens. It all helps as we serve our community.
DONATING TO THE DEACON’S PANTRY FOOD BANK
